Music and Us: Our Playlist !!!

Hello and welcome to my last installment for "Colsen's Cool Music Corner"! I'm so glad you all have journeyed with me thus far, and I am even more excited for this last post; I love discovering new music, and I hope you guys enjoy my picks!

For my first pick, I chose "Oye Como Va" by Tito Puente; It is a Spanish Traditional Song written in the 1960s, and was popularized by Carlos Santana on his album "Abraxas", when they re-recorded it and reworked some of the instrumentals. I chose this because I love both versions, and because not many people know about the original version by Tito Puente. Puente originally wrote it as simply a filler song for one of his upcoming albums, and it's crazy to think that such a song as this was intended to be filler.  I included both versions so you can listen and see which you like better.

For my second pick, I chose not a specific song, but a type of call, which is Tulning, a variation of Traditional Swedish Herding calls. I chose this simply because I think it is interesting, and because not a lot of people know about it. I think that Swedish culture is really interesting, particularly because of how it has developed due to their geography, and also because I really want to visit Sweden some day.

For my third pick, I chose "O Sole Mio" by Giovanni Capurro, Eduardo di Capura, and Alfredo Mazzucchi; It is an example of traditional Italian song, specifically from the Neapolitan region of Italy, and I chose this song because it is one of my mom's favorite songs. I heard it a lot growing up, and it's very nostalgic to me. The version I chose for my video is Pavarotti, because he's arguably the most famous Italian tenor of all time.

For my last pick, I chose Teresa Teng's "月亮代表我的心", or "Moon Represents My Heart". This is an example of Chinese contemporary music, and I chose this song for two reasons: I discovered it when I was in Hawaii, as I was walking along the streets of Lahaina. Someone was playing it, and I found it really beautiful, so of course, I Shazamed it, and it was swiftly added to my playlist. The other reason I chose this song is because it reminds me of how fast things in this life can change; For those of you who don't know, most of the downtown of Lahaina, including parts of the 183 year old Banyan tree near the town hall, were either severely damaged or completely destroyed in the 2023 Hawaiian wildfires. I was walking down it's streets merely 9 months earlier in November 2022, and it is really strange to think some of the places I went to simply don't exist anymore. Whenever I hear Teresa Teng's beautiful voice, I think of my time in Lahaina.

Thank you so much for reading my blogs, and as always here's your picture of chunk (I had just given him a bath here):
