Music and Family!!!

Hello and welcome to my third installment of "Colsen's Cool Music Corner! This week's blog is about music and how it relates to my family, so I'm very excited to introduce you to my mother, Mrs. Angie Guy! My momma has always had so much music in her life, and is one of the biggest reasons why music is what I am pursuing in life. So, of course I had to interview her, and find out more about her relationship to music! I asked her a lot of questions, and here are her answers:

Me: What are your earliest memories of music?

Mom: I remember growing up during the 80s and hearing a lot of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Madonna on the radio. I would sit and listen to them on the radio all the time, and I loved to use my hairbrush and pretend it was a microphone so I could sing the songs; I especially loved hearing Whitney's beautiful voice, she's still one of my favorites to this day.

Me: What kind of music did your parents listen to while you were growing up?

Mom: My mother loved the Carpenters, and my father liked 40's Big Band style music. It was definitely different than what I listened to, but I didn't mind hearing it.

Me: What kind of music did you listen to as a teenager?

Mom: I listened to a lot of 90s rap as a teen, especially Tupac and Biggie. I really enjoyed the poetic and lyrical sense that it brought to music, and especially the beats. My parents were not much fans of rap, but that didn't stop me from listening to it.

Me: Was there a specific album or song that helped you through hard times?

Mom: I remember there were a lot of difficult Christmases that I would listen to the Boyz II Men Christmas album, and it would make me feel a lot better.

Me: If you could sum up your life in two songs, what would they be?

Mom: Definitely Bruce Hornsby's "The Way It Is" and Fleetwood Mac's "Little Lies"

Thank you so much for reading, and learning about the wonderful person I call my momma. And as always, here's your weekly photo of chunk (he's mid yawn here):

  1. I have only listened to one Biggie Smalls song; do you listen to him or is it just your mom? If you do, what are some recommendations? (That song is literally the only one I know)

  4. Hi Colsen! I really enjoyed learning more about your mom’s music taste I love Fleetwood Mac and Whitney Houston especially, but reading about her enjoyment of 90s rap was so interesting since that is a genre I interact with so rarely
